The Life of Douglas Paul Fournet

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009 at a 10:00 AM Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Douglas Paul "Doug" Fournet, 48, who died on Friday, July 24, 2009 in Lafayette.Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery in Lafayette.Reverend Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, will officiate the services. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, "Ave Maria", "Be Not Afraid", "Amazing Grace" and Just A Closer Walk With Thee".Survivors include his parents, James and Priscilla Guidry Fournet; two brothers, Jeffry Fournet and his companion, Brenda Snelson and Michael Fournet and his wife, Tannia; two nieces and nephews, Timothy Fournet and his wife, Natalie and Angela Fournet; his aunts and uncles, Ray and Ann Fournet of Pineville, LA., Joyce and Harry Gamble of Alexandria, LA. and Lee Fournet of Baton Rouge, LA.; two great nieces and nephews; one brother in law, Patrick Thibodeaux; and his dear and lifelong friend and companion, Gwendolyn Marie Buller.He was preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Lynn Fournet Thibodeaux; one brother, David Bruce Fournet; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his beloved dog "Choupique".A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, Doug was a loving son, brother, uncle, companion and friend to all who knew him. He was a self employed carpenter and worked in construction for many years. Doug enjoyed working with his hands, and was often known as the "Mr. Fix-It" to his family and friends. He was a longtime member of the APA (American Poolplayers Association), and enjoyed playing in the weekly league. Doug was an animal lover and loved being around his two favorite canine companions, "Copper" and "CJ". He was a generous person who loved helping others. Doug will be dearly missed not only by family and friends, but by all of those whose lives he has touched throughout the years.Pallbearers will be Jeffry Fournet, Mike Fournet, Patrick Thibodeaux, Timothy Fournet, Dwain Girouard and Tony Broussard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kirk Darbonne, Allen Benoit and Joseph Latiolais.A Rosary will be prayed by Reverend Allen Breaux on Sunday, July, 26, 2009 at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette. The family requests that visitation be observed on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Sunday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of services at 10:00 AM.Martin & Castille Funeral Home - Lafayette, 337-234-2311
