The Life of Rhoda Bess Goodson
A native of Baton Rouge, a resident of Lafayette for over 40 years, and a current resident of Pensacola, FL, Rhoda Bess passed peacefully into eternal life to join Our Lord and her loved ones on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the age of 97.
She was a graduate of LSU where she met her husband of 57 years, Joe Watts Goodson, Sr., who preceded her in death.
She is survived by their four children and spouses, Barbara Ann Garrett and husband John, Charles Thomas Goodson and wife Delphine, Joe Watts Goodson, Jr. and wife Carleen, and Rhoda Bess Goodson. Her surviving six grandchildren and spouses are Timothy Garrett and wife Jennifer, Anna Goodson, Claire Goodson, Jason Goodson and wife Aimee, Jacob Goodson and wife Jamie, and Joshua Goodson and fiancé Catie Compton. Her surviving eleven great grandchildren are Braden and Brentley Garrett, Ann Claire and Averie Harris, and Mia, Matthew, Michael, Nicholas, Watts, Abigail, and Hunter Goodson.
The granddaughter of former Baton Rouge Mayor John J. Wax (1896-1898), Rhoda Bess was a wife, mother, and teacher. Her faith and her family were the center of her life. She was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church community and served in the Ladies’ Altar Sodality and Rosary Prayer Group for many years.
Visitation will be at Martin & Castille Funeral Home, DOWNTOWN, 330 St. Landry Street, Lafayette, LA, Tuesday, December 28, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a recitation of the rosary at 10:00 AM and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille. Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
