The Life of Christine Pullum

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 at a 10:00 AM Service in Asbury United Methodist Church for Christine Sidaris Pullum, 71, who passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2009 at her residence in Lafayette.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Ann Sutton and Reverend Ira Robinson of Asbury United Methodist Church will officiate the services. Survivors include her beloved husband of 42 years, Robert Doyle Pullum of Lafayette; two sisters, Margaret Sidaris Holmes and her husband, Albert of Montgomery, AL. and Victoria Sidaris Ornowski and her husband, Joseph of Katy, TX.; one sister-in-law, Willie Jean Sellers and her husband, Robert of FL.; six nephews Nicholas Ornowski and his wife, Angela of TX., William McDaniel and his wife, Sheila of AL., Tony McDaniel and his dog, Lacey of AL., Gregg Sellers and his wife, Christy of AL., and Bill White of FL.; two nieces, Alice Grein and her husband, James of TN. and Frances Martin and her husband, Phillip of FL.; two great nephews, Nicholas Ornowski II of TX. and Lee McDaniel and his wife, Nicole of AL.; and one great niece Abigail Ornowski. She was preceded in death by her parents, William James Sidaris and Allie Grey Powell Sidaris; and one nephew, Chris McDaniel.Christine Sidaris Pullum, wife of Robert Doyle Pullum, of Lafayette, LA. and formerly Montgomery, AL., died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She will be layed to rest in her wedding dress that she wore 42 years ago. Christine and Doyle would have celebrated their 42 year anniversary on January 22, 2009. Christine was the oldest female hemophiliac in the United States, and one of only a known handful of women with the same designation of classic hemophilia. She succumbed to her 35 year battle with Hepatitis “C”.In Montgomery, Alabama, Christine graduated from Lanier High School and also attended Huntington College, where she met her future husband, Doyle Pullum. She was the oldest child of Bill and Allie Sidaris. Her father was a well known local restaurant owner, and her mother was a respected and popular catering manager for the Maxwell AFB Officer’s Club. Christine and Doyle moved to Lafayette in 1969 to run Anders (Follette) book store for 19 years at USL (ULL).Christine made friends in all walks of life. She was a selfless and tireless worker for many causes over her almost 40 years in Lafayette. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class there. She even served several terms as Sunday School Superintendent. One of Christine’s significant accomplishments was helping to secure the charter for the “Federation of Louisiana Hemophilia”. She and Mrs. Jan Hamilton worked with the state legislature for the recognition and the funding for this group, now known as the “National Hemophilia Foundation in Louisiana”. Christine was founder of the “Hepatitis Education Support Group” in Lafayette, and for 6 years she was the driving force in obtaining sponsors and financing for the group. She was a tireless worker for the Lafayette ABL Lion’s Club and was honored to be “Lion of the Year” in 2000 and 2001. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.Pallbearers will be William McDaniel, Anthony McDaniel, Phillip Martin, Nick Ornowski, Nick Ornowski II and Gregg Sellers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill White and the Sunday School Friendship Class. The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of services at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette.Interment will be held at 12:00 PM, with a procession from church, to Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mrs. Pullum’s name to Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 Live Oak Blvd., Lafayette, Louisiana 70503 or to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.The family wishes to express their profound gratitude for the amazing respect and love shown to Christine by her Hospice of Acadiana caregivers, especially her nurse Jolane Doucet and her aide Tawana Moore.Martin & Castille - Lafayette, 337-234-2311
