The Life of Wayne Farnsworth Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Wayne Farnsworth, Jr., 78, who passed away on December 30, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Deacon Randy Hyde will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Farnsworth was born in Yale, Oklahoma and resided in McPherson, Kansas until his enlistment in the United States Air Force. He traveled extensively during his service in the military until his retirement from the Air Force to Lafayette in 1975. He was the son of the late Wayne Edward Farnsworth, Sr. and the former Dorothy Mosing. Wayne was a proud member of the United States Military and a 25 year retired Chief Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving two tours in Southeast Asia, and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and numerous other honors and awards. He was a dedicated employee with Frank''s Casing Crew for almost 30 years. Mr. Farnsworth enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, camping, as well as spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted, caring, and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Farnsworth; four sons, Rick Farnsworth and his wife, Connie of Canton, Kansas, Tim Farnsworth of Lafayette, Louisiana, Gery Farnsworth and his wife, Beth of Lafayette, Louisiana and Ivan Farnsworth and his wife, Christy of Lafayette, Louisiana; two daughters, Anne Farnsworth Gros and her husband, Johnny of Lafayette, Louisiana and Lisa Farnsworth Smiler and her husband, David of Wesley Chapel, Florida; nine grandchildren, Brandy Wenthe, Matthew Farnsworth, Joshua Farnsworth, Gerrit Farnsworth, Megan Farnsworth, Ethan Farnsworth, Cassidy Farnsworth, Erin Farnsworth and Samantha Farnsworth; three great-grandchildren, Bryce Wenthe, Braylan Wenthe and Arianna Farnsworth; three brothers, Terry Farnsworth and his wife, Nancy of Louisville, Kentucky, Carl Farnsworth and his wife, Sharon of Waco, Texas and Dennis Farnsworth and his wife, Beth of Richmond, Virginia; one sister, Flora Anderson and her husband Dale, of Salina, Kansas; several neices and nephews; and his beloved black lab, Ebony. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, David Farnsworth. The family would like to thank all of the nurses, doctors, and staff of Lafayette General Medical Center who lovingly cared for him during his recent illness. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am until time of service at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette. Box 535301, Lafayette, Louisiana70505. Pallbearers are his sons, Rick, Tim, Gery and Ivan Farnsworth, and two grandsons Joshua and Gerrit Farnsworth. Honorary pallbearers are his grandson, Matthew Farnsworth, and two sons-in-law, Johnny Gros and David Smiler.
