The Life of Dr. Charles Edward LeBlanc

Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 am mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at St. Mary''s Catholic Church for Dr. Charles Edward LeBlanc, 88, who passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at his residence. Reverend Harold Trahan, pastor of St. Mary Church will be the celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Gift bearers will be Dr. LeBlanc''s granddaughters. Interment will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Charles Edward LeBlanc, born in Thibodaux, Louisiana on April 22, 1920, to Paul Euclid (Teet) LeBlanc, and Annette (Nettie) Dill LeBlanc. The family moved to Port Arthur, Texas in 1922. He attended public schools there and was involved in sports, Jr. Police Boys Club and scouting. He became an Eagle Scout and was a participant in the first Jamboree at Valley Forge. He formed his band ''The Junior Police Joy Boys''. In 1938 he began his pre-medical education at Louisiana State University and received his BA., and a Second Lieutenant Commission in 1942, with the Army Specialized Trainings Program. He attended Medical school at LSU in New Orleans where he was a member and officer of Phi Chi. His internship was completed at Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, and his induction was at Fort Sam Houston and he was appointed Student Battalion Adjutant General. The areas that he served were Fort Ord in Monterrey, California, Batangar on Luzon and Guam. In 1948 he and his family settled in Franklin, La. where he built Franklin Medical Center and did general practice there for eight years. While there he was active in the Knights of Columbus, the church choir, all school activities and King Sucrose XVI on February 14, 1956. His ophthalmology-otolaryngology training began at Gill Memorial Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat hospital in Roanoke, Virginia in 1956. When the eye and the ear, nose and throat services were separated at LSU Shreveport (Confederate Memorial Hospital), the hospital needed a second year resident to establish both services. While there he was on the board that initiated ophthalmic and audiology exams for public school children. He also had four months of classes at Colby College in Waterville Maine. After this training, he and his family settled in Lafayette in 1959, and he practiced EENT, until 1992. Church, School and Community have always had his support for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima''s Men''s Choir, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Oakbourne Country Club, for fifty years. He was a member and a duke of the Krewe of Gabriel, and a duke for the Krewe of Attakapas. He and his wife were founding members of St. Mary Mother of the Church parish. The Lafayette Parish Medical Society was a special part of his life. He was a member of The American Medical Association, and The Louisiana State Medical Society. Fishing and golf were great joys for him. But dancing was better than eating when he was hungry and playing the piano was great fun, too. He met his wife of 64 years on the dance floor (where else) at the Jung Hotel roof in 1942. They were married March 25, 1944 at St. Rose de Lima Church in New Orleans. He is survived by his wife, Dorric Wood LeBlanc of Lafayette; three children, Daren and her husband Patrick Tucker, Charles Edward LeBlanc II, and his wife, Roberta and Betty Ellison. They all reside in Lafayette. Eight Grand-children, John Collin Wynne, and his wife, Nicole. Lorraine Cox of Lake Charles, Guy C. Ellison III and his wife Misty of Lafayette, Kate Wynne of Dallas Texas, Blake Ellison of New York, NY. Rachael LeBlanc, Charles Edward LeBlanc III and Amanda LeBlanc all of Lafayette. Three great-grandchildren, Christian Aidan Wynne, of Lafayette, Nathaniel James Cox of Lake Charles and Lauren Abigail Wynne of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Robert James LeBlanc and Edward Williamson Wynne III. The family request that visiting hours be observed on Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Collin Wynne, Guy Ellison II, Blake Ellison, Charles LeBlanc III, Charles Leblanc II, and K Patrick Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Joseph McDade, Mr. Wood Breazeale, Mr. George Cole, Dr. Kelly Stevens, Dr. Sweeney Smith, and Mr. Vernon Maret. Memorial contributions can be made in Dr. LeBlanc''s name to the charity of your choice.
