The Life of Martha Lilly Coulter

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on December 8, 2010 at Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery for Martha Harper Coulter, 90, who passed away on December 4, 2010 at 7:15 pm in Houston, TX after a long illness. Martha Harper Coulter was born on July 23, 1920 in Abbeville, LA, and was the daughter of Augusta and J.E. Harper. Martha grew up in Minden, LA and attended Newcomb College in New Orleans where she graduated with a degree in Ancient History. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. In 1943, she married William Wallace (Bill) Coulter, the love of her life, a Physician with a specialty in Internal Medicine. They settled in Lafayette, LA, where they raised their family and were members of St. Mary's Parish. Everyone who knew her throughout her life was captivated by her beauty, her charm, her warmth and love of people, of entertaining, of family. She loved antiques, growing orchids, was a gourmet cook, and a beautiful decorator. She was President of the Ladies Medical Auxiliary and Queen of The Lafayette Mardi Gras Krewe of Attakapas. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Martha Coulter of Tampa, Florida, Carol and Joe Pritchett, of Houston, Texas, Ann and Bob Szabo of Washington D.C., six grandsons, William and Benjamin Pritchett, Robert, David, Brian, and Michael Szabo, and five great grandchildren, Luke, Keira, Eloise and Cole Pritchett, and Wyatt Szabo. She is survived also by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Clay and Augusta Waggenspack, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Jody Waggenspack, of Houma, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bill Coulter. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
