The Life of Roland James Barras

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for Coach Roland “Tiger” Barras, 70, who passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Thomas P. Voorhies will conduct the funeral services. Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Barras, a lifelong resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Dalton Barras of Lafayette and the former Paula Naquin of Youngsville. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Barras coached at Acadiana High School, Vermilion Catholic High School, Comeaux High School, and Landry High School. He played baseball for McNeese and graduated from there. He taught at Paul Breaux High School. He loved Les Miles and was glad he’s coming back. He is survived by three daughters, Anna Christine Fiorella of Mandeville, Susan Thibodeaux, and Michele Richard both of Eunice; three sons-in-law, Kevin Fiorella of Mandeville, Mitch Thibodeaux, and Donald Richard, Jr. both of Eunice; twenty grandchildren; one great grandchild; one step-sister, Anna Sherfield; and Christine Granger, a close friend of Mr. Barras. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William Naquin, Jr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and continue on Friday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers are Mitchell Thibdodeaux, Donald Richard Jr., Kevin Fiorella, Justin Dupuy, Justin Revere, and Daniel Fiorella. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
