The Life of Paul Roy Dupuis Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Roy Dupuis, Sr., 86, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at his residence in Lafayette.Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Kathy Escuriex, Connie Weiss, and Lucie Pyle. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", "The Lord's Prayer", and "Let There Be Peace On Earth".Survivors include his two daughters, Phyllis D. Murphey of New Iberia and Anne Pyle and her husband Bill of Lafayette; one son, Roy Dupuis and his wife Karla of Sarasota, Florida; one sister, Rosa Gwin; six grandchildren, John Murphey, Kathy Escuriex, Connie Weiss, Lucie Pyle, Marcel Dupuis, and Andre Dupuis; and six great grandchildren, Jackson Murphey, Claire Murphey, Jacob Escuriex, Ashley Escuriex, Whitney Weiss, and Courtney Weiss.He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine M. Dupuis of Carencro; his father, Dr. John W. Dupuis, Sr. of Youngsville; his mother, Stella Theriot of Youngsville; and one brother, Dr. John W. Dupuis, Sr.A native of Youngsville and resident of Lafayette for 42 years, Mr. Dupuis graduated from Cathedral High School where he enjoyed an athletic youth, playing football and baseball as well as boxing. He attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, formerly called SLI, where he met "the girl he would marry on the steps of Martin Hall." Years later, as a general contractor, he would build many other buildings on the university's campus. Elaine Mouton and Roy Dupuis were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1941, shortly before Pearl Harbor. Elaine and Roy enjoyed 59 years of marriage, which Roy would say was his greatest accomplishment and the joy of his life.He served as a Staff Sergeant in the finance Department at the Army Air Base in Bartow, Florida during World War II. Upon returning from the War, he founded a local lumber company, which eventually grew into home building and then commercial construction. As a self made, self taught contractor, he built many buildings around south Louisiana, building his company into a very successful and respected business. He will be remembered for his integrity in serving as role model for his children, grand children and great grand children. He was a man of uncanny intelligence and great generosity.Mr. Dupuis was the past State President of the Associated General Contractors Association, a past member of the Airport Commission and involved in the formative years with the Lafayette Planning Commission. He was a faithful supporter of ULL and a past President of the former USL Foundation. He was a devoted member of the Cathedral of St. John Catholic Church. As an avid golfer, he was a founding member of Oakbourne Country Club and enjoyed his time on the golf course with his brother and close friends.Pallbearers will be Marcel Dupuis, Andre Dupuis, John Murphey, Carl Weiss, Jerome Escuriex, and Bill Pyle. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jackson Murphey, Claire Murphey, Jacob Escuriex, Ashley Escuriex, Whitney Weiss, and Courtney Weiss.A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 10:00 AM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette.The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of funeral Mass.The family wishes to express their gratitude to his devoted long-term caregiver, Florence Rubin for her kindness, and gentle care given to Mr. Dupuis during his time of need.Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Dupuis name to Hospice of Acadinana, 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.Martin & Castille - Lafayette, 337-234-2311
