The Life of Kathryn Thurber

LAFAYETTE - Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Kathryn Robira Thurber, 93, who passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home.

 Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.

 Rev. Monsignor Charles J. Mallet will conduct the Memorial Service.

 Mrs. Thurber was born Tuesday, January 29, 1918 in Jennings, LA and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. In her active years, Kathryn was a member of the Acadian Home Builders Ladies Auxiliary and an active participant in the LGMC cardiac exercise program. After the death of her husband of 67 years, John L. Thurber, Kathryn joined the Grief Group at her parish church, Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette.

 An inspiration to others with her determined, don''t-quit attitude, Kathryn met life''s challenges without complaint. She was a good wife, loving mother and grandmother, beloved aunt, loyal friend and caring neighbor and will be most deeply missed.

 Kathryn is survived by six children, daughters Ida T. Baggett and her husband, Jack of Kingwood, TX, Clo T. Naomi of Lafayette and Kathryn Watson and her husband, Douglas of Tomball, TX and sons John L. Thurber, II and his wife, Caren of Slidell, Fred Thurber and his wife, Kay of Denham Springs and Paul E. Thurber and his wife, Laura of Dallas; eleven grandchildren, Jack L. Baggett, Gwendolyne Allen, Jacob Naomi, Matthew Watson and Dexter, Cody, Kimm and Alexandr Thurber along with Madison, Julia and Lillian Dietz; three great-grandchildren, Grayson Thurber and Jeremy and Alex Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her husband John L. Thurber; her parents John Joseph Robira, Sr. and the former Marie Ida Young; and her three brothers and three sisters.

 Visiting hours at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette will be observed on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until time of services.

 The family would like to acknowledge the years of care and help of Dr. Lester Ducote. The final 18 months of Kathryn''s life were eased by the excellent care of the staff of Heart of Hospice, Kathryn''s special caregiver Ella Martin and, for the last weeks, the care at Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home. The family expresses appreciation for the calls, visits, cards and flowers of Kathryn''s devoted friends.
