The Life of Harold Wilson Martin

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 for Harold Wilson "Wick" Martin, 82, who passed away on August 15, 2011 at 3:35 pm at Lafayette General Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Reverend Nathan Comeaux, Associate Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua in Eunice, will conduct the memorial services. Mr. Martin, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late O. D. Martin of Lawrenceburg, TN, and the former Betty Cooper of Giles County, TN. Harold was a native of Lawrenceburg, TN and made Lafayette his home for the last 43 years. He worked in the oil field service industry and was self-employed for the last 20 years of his career, starting and running his own pipe yard. He was in the Army and served over seas during the Korean war. Harold was a wonderful husband, dedicated to the care of his wife. He was unmatched as a father and grandfather, genuinely pursuing his children and grandchildren to build strong, positive, encouraging relationships that have and will transfer from generation to generation. He loved people and his fun and engaging personality was special. He enjoyed watching and playing the stock market for many years. He was an avid golfer for much of his life and a fallout from his love of golf is that he is affectionately known as "Preaux" within the family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Held Martin; two daughters Melinda Howze and husband Greg of Lafayette and Joanne Slovacek and husband Chris of Houston, TX; one son, Hal Martin and wife Karin of Anchorage, AK; fourteen grandchildren, Ryan Martin, Travis Martin and wife Melody, Laurilee Martin and Suzannah Martin, Holly Howze, Hailey Daspit and husband Philip, Hillary Howze, Helena Howze, Andrew Howze, Alexander Howze, Anthony Howze, Rachel Slovacek, Shelly Slovacek and Theresa Slovacek; two great grandchildren, Hope Martin and Manon Daspit. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 9:00 am until time of services in Lafayette. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
