The Life of Wilbur Dupas Starr

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Wilbur "Skip" Dupas Starr, 81, who died on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Reverend Noah Langley will officiate.

Mr. Starr, the son of the late Ray W. and Jeanne P. Starr, grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served as Seaman 1/c in the U. S. Naval Reserves during WWII and participated in active duty from 1945-46 in the Pacific Theatre. He had sea duty aboard the U. S. S. Windham Bay (CVE-92), the U.S.S. Hollandia (CVE-97) and the U.S.S. Waldron (DD-699). He received his B. ARCH, from Tulane University in 1951 MCP (City Planning), at Georgia Institute of Technology in 1969. Between 1973 and 1974, he physically built his own home, where he raised his family and resided until his death. He had been an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of Nebraska and Georgia Institute of Technology, Professor of Architecture and Head, Department of Architecture, University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette, Louisiana. He was a registered Architect in Louisiana, Nebraska, Florida and Georgia. He retired as Professor of Architecture, after 25 years at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette, LA in 1991. Upon retiring, he and his wife traveled the world. He was also a volunteer at the Paul and Lulu Hillard University Art Museum.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Daryl Starr; his children, Gregory Scott Starr, Nancy Lee Starr and Suzanne Starr Domingue; grandchildren, Tyler Domingue and Kyle Domingue; brother, Douglas P. Starr and wife, Carolyn McClendon; and his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visiting hours will be observed Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude''s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Miles Perret Center, 2130 Kaliste Saloom Road, Suite 101, Lafayette, Louisiana 70508.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Michael Cain, Monica and Christine and the oncology staff at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
