The Life of Joseph Lee Stelly

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette for Joseph Lee “J.L.” Stelly, 65, who passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2008 at his residence in Lafayette.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Ron Moreau, soloist, accompanied on the organ by Phyllis Simar, will sing for the services.Survivors include his beloved wife, Marie Dianne Rivette Stelly of Lafayette; two daughters, Catherine Armide Stelly Simon and her husband, Matt, and JoAnn Stelly Snyder and her husband, Eric; one son, Douglas Benjamin Stelly and his companion, Judy Ardoin; six grandchildren, Andre’ Simon, Jordan Simon, Melissa Simon, Morgan Stelly, Molly Stelly and Austin Snyder; and three sisters, Betty Stelly, Pearly S. Dekerlegland and Verna S. Theriot. He was preceded in death by his parents Elie Stelly and Agnes Hollier Stelly; two infant children, Melissa and John Stelly; one brother, Raymond Stelly; and one sister, Merle Stelly Carriere.A native of Leonville and resident of Lafayette for over 45 years, Mr. Stelly was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church Community in Lafayette. Mr. Stelly was an active member of the Marine Corps League where he served as an Associate Member, the Acadiana Region Support and Service Center Family Association, Regional and State Advisory Committee, and the Coalition of Louisiana Support and Service Center Family Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and also enjoyed visits to his lakehouse. Mr. Stelly was a craftsman and also enjoyed woodworking, videography, wine making, and cooking and entertaining for his friends and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.Pallbearers will be Hammy Davis, Larry Blanchard, Glenn Viator, Raymond Hollier, P.A. Carriere and Paige Melancon. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Dore’, Clarence “Frenchie” Rivette, Frank Rivette and Oscar Reed.A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette.The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services.Martin & Castille - Lafayette
