The Life of Mary Jean Chandler
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Asbury United Methodist Church for Mary "Tag" Langley Chandler, 92, who passed away on September 20, 2011 at 5:00 am at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Reverend Richard Humphries, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist, will conduct the funeral services.
Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Chandler, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar Langley and the former Addie Powell. Tag was a tireless model of love and service to everyone who knew her. To her husband of 67 years, she was a soul mate. To her family, she was a confidant, teacher, advisor, best friend, and cheerleader. As a founding member of Asbury Methodist Church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and founded the Nook, in which she labored tirelessly serving needy families. As an English teacher, she was remembered long after her students’ graduation for her love and encouragement backed up with strict discipline and high expectations for them. To her friends, she was the voice always offering praise and encouraging words. She was the person you could always count on to get any job done that needed doing. Her 92 years were gloriously lived and every day was a celebration of life. She will be sorely missed, but will remain in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, she requested a donation to the Asbury Nook.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Chandler Castille and husband Charles of Lafayette, LA, and Jenny Lynn Tucker of Lafayette, LA; four grandchildren, Juddson Calender, Chip Castille, Collin Castille, and Christy Castille Savely; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Chandler, three sisters, and four brothers.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service in Lafayette.
Pallbearers will be Judd Calender, Chip Castille, Collin Castille, Don Savely, Alex Savely, and Cory Savely. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Savely, Sam Castille, and Charlie Castille, III.
