The Life of John T Armatta

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for John T. Armatta, 79, who passed away on May 16, 2011 at 7:35 am at his residence. Rev. Dr. Kenneth O. Burke, Pastor of First Lutheran Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Armatta, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Clay Walton Armatta of Smithville, Texas and the former Margerite Smith of Humble, Texas. John T. Armatta “Tom”, was born on April 22, 1932 in Houston, Texas. He served in the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Korean Conflict where he was a Gunnery Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in August of 1955. Tom graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute on May 25, 1958 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in the College of Industrial Arts Education. He had a distinguished career with the Department of Labor for the State of Louisiana. He directed the JTPA and under Dave Treen was the Assistant Secretary to the Department of Labor for the State of Louisiana. Tom retired from the State in 1985, moved to Lafayette, and obtained employment with the Federal Government where he was a Compliance Officer for the Labor Department in the Wage and Hour Division. He was an avid LSU fan and enjoyed watching his big screen TV as well as visiting the Casino from time to time. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy R. Armatta of Lafayette, LA; seven daughters, Juannie Andrews of Lampassas, TX, Marlaine Olivier and husband George of New Iberia, LA, Dorothy Chauser of Greenwell Springs, LA, Denise Schoeffler of Port Allen, LA, Phyllis Craft and husband Lan of Lafayette, LA, Cindy Winzen and husband Randy of St. Louis, MO, and Missy Armatta of Lafayette, LA; three sons, John Thomas Breaux, Sr. and wife Colleen of Lafayette, LA, Alfred W. Schoeffler, II. and wife Lisa of Lafayette, LA, and Kurt Armatta of Baton Rouge, LA; thirty three grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Theresa Barrilleaux of Sunset, LA, and Evelyn Armatta of Hot Springs, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 am until the time of services. Pallbearers will be John Thomas Breaux, Sr., Alfred W. Schoeffler, Kurt Armatta, Tommy Watson, John Andrews and Randy Winzen.
