The Life of Wallace Gabriel Doucet

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Wallace Gabriel Doucet, 85, who passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Camelot of Broussard Assisted Living. Reverend Carl Benton, Pastor of The Living Word Church, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Doucet, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Kossuth Doucet of Lafayette and the former Lela Smalley of Carencro. Mr. Doucet worked his way through college here playing the violin which he loved and exceeded in. He then volunteered for the Merchant Marines as Chief Stewart serving his country proudly for four years. He worked for a Texas shipbuilder named Falcon Seaboard, where he painted their sign. He owned and operated Cely''s Fashion Center, skippered and owned Seawall Marine Service, owned The French Patty Restaurant and was the merchant and owner of Doucet''s Hardware Store for 35 years. He raised blueberries on his farm as well as harvesting honey from his beehives. He is survived by one daughter, Maxine D. Guidroz and her husband, Robert L. Guidroz of Lafayette; one son, Carl E. Doucet of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Kristen W. Perhonis, Kari W. Spittle, Blake R. Willis, Nikki Doucet, Stoney G. Doucet and Slade G. Doucet; five great grandchildren, Nicholas, Caleb, Carley, Hayden and Jackson; and one brother, Weston Doucet of Crosby, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Eldridge Doucet. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Monday from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Carl, Stoney and Slade Doucet, Robert Guidroz, Blake Willis, Glen, Lance and Patrick Stutes, Dana, Jason and Jessee Pike, Jarod Spittle, and Paul Perhonis. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
