The Life of Marie Emma Joy Long

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Joy Long, age 71.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Long's Grandson, Father Nathan Long, Associate Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Joy was a devoted wife to her husband of 53 years, Donald S. Long, and a devoted mother to five children, Kenneth Paul Long of Lake Charles, Karen K. Long of Baton Rouge, Daniel Thomas Long of Arlington, Texas, Paula Long Harwin of Lafayette, and Scott Allen Long of Lafayette; thirteen grandchildren, Father Nathan Long, Nicole Long Foreman, John Gibby, Jr., Christina Gibby, Lindsay Joy Harwin, Regan Harwin, Julianne Harwin, Gabrielle Harwin, Matthew Long, Grayson Long, Valerie Long, Amelia Long and Bethany Long and six great grandchildren, Lilla Coffey, Kaleb Foreman, Andrew Foreman, Isabella Foreman, Philip Foreman and Prestin Springer. She is also survived by one sister, Perry Saucier of Kenner and three brothers, Ray Ardoin of Vidrine, Darrell Ardoin and Berkley Ardoin, both of Ville Platte.Marie Emma Joy Ardoin Long, born August 1, 1938, peacefully ended her long struggle with Parkinson's disease on Wednesday July 14, 2010 at home surrounded by loved ones. She was a native of Ville Platte, Louisiana and was a resident of Lafayette for forty-nine years.She lived a life of service to the Lord as a Certified Catholic Chaplain and Pastoral Care Director at University Medical Center for 15 years before retiring in 2000. She also served as Chaplain for Hospice of Acadiana. Prior to becoming Chaplain, she served the parish of Holy Cross Catholic Church as Liturgical Minister, Catechist and Eucharistic Minister. She was also a licensed cosmetologist and was employed by Wilson's Jewelers for many years. It was an honor for Joy to have served as President of The Louisiana Chaplain's Association from 1993 - 1995, and President of the Lafayette Ministerial Association from 1990-1991. She founded the Lafayette Area Chaplain's support group in 1987. In December 2003 she was awarded the prestigious "A Person of Vision, Tower of Strength" award by the Louisiana Chaplain's Association. She was also awarded "Woman of Accomplishment" by Connections, a professional woman's organization, in 1988.She was preceded in death by her father, Horace Ardoin, her mother, Pauline Vidrine Ardoin and one sister, Lourie Arnaud. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Long, Daniel Long, Scott Long, John Gibby, Jr., Matthew Long and Anthony Harwin.The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Friday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
