The Life of Lydia Inez Stokes

Funeral services will be held at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 14 ,2010 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Lydia Stokes, 95, who passed away on July 12, 2010 at 3:00 am at her residence.

Reverend Hampton Davis, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Mrs. Stokes, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the daughter of the late Otto Reiszner of Iowa and the former Lander Wiley of Lecompte, LA. Lydia was born in Lecompte, Louisiana on October 12, 1914. She moved to Bunkie after her marriage in 1935. For the past fifty-seven years, she was a resident of Lafayette. She was previously active in LaCauserie, Lafayette Town House, Oakbourne Country Club and numerous other organizations. In her later years, she remained involved with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynette Stokes Clarke and husband, John of Bunkie; sons, George Winston Stokes and wife, Edith of Lafayette and Winston Lee "Skip" Stokes and wife, Kathryn of The Woodlands, TX; her sisters, Marion Reiszner Pearce and husband, Berthol "Boots" and Juanita Reiszner Wedaman, all of Bunkie; grandchildren, Martha Domingue Williams and husband, Miles of Baton Rouge, Jimi "Boo" Domingue Bernard and husband, Neal of Woodway, TX, Floyd "Joey" Domingue, Jr., and wife, Michelle of Lafayette, Winston Lee Domingue and wife, Laura of Baton Rouge, Lydia Domingue of Lafayette, Anthony Brent Stokes and wife, Laura, Andrew Brett Stokes and wife, Joan, George Winston Stokes, Jr., and wife, Brandi, Keith Charles Stokes and wife, Melanie, all of Lafayette, Beverly Stokes Mentzer and husband, Ray, Michael Winston Stokes and wife, Colleen, all of The Woodlands, TX, and Robert Walter Stokes and wife, Julie of Santa Ana, CA; thirty-one great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Lander Reiszner; her beloved husband, Winston L. Stokes; sisters, Sybil R. Collins, Claire R. Davoust, Freida R. White, and Rosa Lee R. Cox.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of services.

Memorial contributions can be made in the name to the charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael Stokes, Joey Domingue, Brent Stokes, Brett Stokes, Lee Domingue, Winston Stokes, Robert Stokes and Keith Stokes.

The family would like to extend a special thanks with deep appreciation to her compassionate and loving caregivers, Melinda Prejean, Jane Prejean and granddaughter Lydia, her namesake. Also thanks to Pat, Shirley and the many friends, neighbors and medical personnel who ministered so kindly to her.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
