The Life of Marie Florine Miguez

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 5, 2009 at St. Mary Church for Marie "Flo" Miguez, 87, who passed away on June 1, 2009 at 9:40 PM at Cornerstone Village South. Reverend Harold Trahan, Pastor of St. Mary Church , will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Marie Florine ''Flo'' Migues was an educator. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Southeastern Louisiana Institute, now University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in 1943. She profoundly touched the lives of many children in Acadiana. Flo taught in Cecilia and Scott in the 1940s and 50s. She then moved on to Our Lady of Fatima High School in the 1960s. Later, she found her true passion, teaching children with special needs. In 1972, she received her Master''s degree in Education. Prior to her retirement in 1978, she worked with the Lafayette Parish School Board''s Pupil Assessment Program. In addition to her highly respected educational career, ''Nanny'' was a caregiver to her family. She treated each of her nieces and nephews as her own. She was always there to nurture and give unconditional love. She is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, Sandra Button Davoren and her husband Dennis, Jaculyn Giroir Bourgeois, Rev. Michael Button and his wife, Carolyn, Paul John Blanchet, III. and his wife, Ginger, Judge David Blanchet and his wife Paula, Dr. Paulette Blanchet, Joan Blanchet Sibille, Monique Giroir Gideon and her husband Kyle, Thomas Joseph Blanchet and his wife Rachel, Denise Giroir Leger, William Mark Blanchet and his wife, Rebecca; her brother in laws, Alvin Button and Paul John Blanchet, Jr.; her grand nieces and nephews, Matthew P. Bourgeois, Christine A. Suarez, Renee Bourgeois Busch, Alicia E. Suarez, Colleen Blanchet Legarde, Ellen Blanchet Graveson, Becky Button, Ross Armentor, Danielle Blanchet, Jennifer Sibille, Thomas J. Button, Mary E. Button, Camille Blanchet, Michelle Blanchet, Andrew Blanchet, Jeanne-Marie Blanchet, Brian Sibille, Rees D. Gideon, Caroline R. Blanchet, Katie Blanchet, Aimee Blanchet, Brennen Leger and William Blanchet. She is also survived 13 great -grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Joseph Migues and Anastazie Dartez Migues; her three sisters, Ruth Migues Button, Audrey Migues Giroir and Joan Migues Blanchet; brother -in-law, Alfred Paul Giroir; nephew Christopher Thomas Button. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Friday from 8:00 am until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Thursday evening at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Michael Button, Paul John Blanchet, III, David Blanchet, Thomas Blanchet, William Blanchet and Kyle Gideon. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
