The Life of Isaac Paul Broussard

Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 9, 2010 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Isaac Paul Broussard, 86, who passed away on September 5, 2010 at 8:30 pm at his residence. Reverend A. Rex Broussard, Jr., Pastor of St. Basil Church, will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Broussard, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Jean Martin Broussard of Maurice, Louisiana and the former Therilze Dronet of Maurice, Louisiana. Isaac was a member of St. Basil Church. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict, serving his country in the US Navy for 24 years before retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he was employed as operations manager by St. Genevieve Catholic Church and School, Fr. Teurlings High School, and Calvary Cemetery and then by Dugas Marble & Granite as manager for 25 years before retiring. Mr. Broussard was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, and the VFW Post 9822. He was also a member of the Dancing Group "Krewe de Cannille" and was elected King Danser Cajun at the Mardi Gras Ball in 1995. He and his wife won many awards for their elaborate Mardi Gras costumes and also won many trophies for dance contests. He loved dancing, cruising and traveling abroad. Mr. Broussard and his wife traveled as official "good will ambassadors" to France from Lafayette and the Cajun People on four different occasions, and enjoyed many cruises promoting Cajun and Zydeco dancing. From their travels, they made many wonderful friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bertha Trahan Broussard; two sons, Wally Dean Broussard and his wife Sylvia of Lafayette, and Troy Gerard Broussard and his wife Ann of Metairie; two granddaughters, Tania Kay Mincey and her husband Joel of Arlington, TX, and Kristi Lynn Kelly of Lafayette; five grand sons, Joshua Trent Broussard, Christopher Paul Broussard, Caleb Michael Broussard, Timothy Jordan Broussard, and Grayson Philip Broussard; four great grandchildren, Patrick Dean Kelly, Madeleine Nicole Mincey, Kaylynn Marie Kelly, and Trina May Broussard; two sisters, Mrs. Lennis "Ella" Faulk, and Theresa Broussard; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Alpheus, Zenon, Edward, and John Eli Broussard; five sisters, Mrs. Willy "Edmay" Racca, Mrs. Laurent "Emella" Touchet, Miss Jeanne Broussard, Mrs. Obrey "Laura" Duhon and Mrs. Cliffey "Elina" Broussard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Personal condolences may be sent to the Broussard family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
