The Life of Mr. Willie George Kitchens Sr.

The heavens opened, angels sang on Pearl Harbor day at 1:00 am to welcome home a brave soldier, a wonderful husband, great father, grandfather and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Amana Christian Fellowship for Willie George Kitchens, Sr., 85, who passed away on December 7, 2010 at 1:00AM at The Regional Medical Center of Acadiana.

Reverend Terrell Reed, Pastor of Amana Christian Fellowship, will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Kitchens, a resident of Youngsville, LA, was the son of the late George Washington Kitchens and the former Luesie Zanker Barber. He was a member of Amana Christian Fellowship in Maurice, LA. He was a veteran of both the US Army and US Navy serving between 1943 and 1950. During his service in the US Army, where he held the rank of Staff Sergeant, he received many medals including the Silver Star and fought in the European Theatre.

He is survived by his wife of eleven years, Rose Kitchens; three sons, Gay Ward Kitchens and wife Opal of Ragland, AL, Boyd Kitchens and wife Donna of Ragland, AL and Willie George Kitchens, Jr. and wife Mary of Charlestown, IN; two daughters, Sharon Trotter and Charlene Picard and husband Sammy both of Maurice, LA; two step daughters, Vickie Raby and husband Steve of Arlington, TX and Jackie Collins and husband Al of Slidell, LA; one sister, Marylane McMahan of Gadsden, AL; sixteen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews as well as the mother of his children, Mary Ann Hayes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack Kitchens, Lelus Kitchens; seven sisters, Corinne Webb, Pearl Sweat, Emma Barber, Hadie Layton, Marie Savage, Azalee George and Elsie Cox.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Amana Christian Fellowship, 310 Milton Road, Maurice, LA, 70555, on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 am until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan and Ewen Trotter, Ben and Darius Rivera, Al Collins and Steve Raby. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sammy Picard and Willie Kitchens, Jr.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 200 Chief H. Fred Avenue, Maurice, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
