The Life of Lorraine Stirling

Funeral services will be held at a 9:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 30, 2008 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Lorraine Perez Stirling, 86, who passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Bessie Prejean and Jennie Lafosse. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mrs. Stirling, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late George J. Perez, Sr. and the former Felonise Meraux both of Violet, La. Lorraine held numerous leadership roles in the community. She served as an officer in the following organizations Ridgewood and Lafayette Parish Homemakers, Our Lady of Fatima Parish Council, 50 plus, Food Net, Concerned Citizens, Friends of the Poor, United Way of Acadiana, Mayor’s Commission on the Needs of Women, and she was a commissioner at the poles. Her many contributions to the Lafayette community were recognized when she received the Women of Excellence award in 2000. At home her coffee pot was always on and her door opened to share conversation and a good laugh with friends, family, and great neighbors. Her children will miss her quick wit, decisiveness, and continuous professed love of her family. She is survived by two daughters, Stennie Meadours of San Leon, Texas, and Patsy Gillham and her husband, Jim of Cypress,Texas; one son, Stann Stirling of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Monica Bryan and her husband, Boyd, Katie Raterink and her husband, Keith, Matt Gillham and his wife, Cass, and Daniel Gillham and his wife, Christie, Jamie Gillham; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin F Stirling; one grandson, Bob Meadours; one brother, George Perez, Jr.; and one cousin, Hollis Ferree. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 until service time. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Keith Raterink, Boyd Bryan, Ed Bonin, Jimmy Guidry, Emilio Garcia, and Matt Gillham. The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the exceptional care given to her by Diane and Betty.
