The Life of Irvin Francis Stirling

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Irvin Francis “Dub” Stirling, 90, who passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Michael J. Russo, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Stirling, a native of Duson and a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Rene Stirling and the former Maydel Mouton. He was a veteran in the United States Air Force. He took great pleasure in the relationships he developed as he designed and equipped independent grocery stores across the Acadiana area. Dub Stirling was a long time KC member; head usher at Fatima; served at St. Joseph Diner and was an SLI track star from 1936 to 1939. His favorite past time was fishing. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Lorraine P. Stirling of Lafayette; two daughters, Stennie S. Meadours of San Leon, Texas, and Patsy S. Gillham and husband, Jim of Cypress, Texas; one son, Stann Paul Stirling of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Monica Bryan, Katie Raterink, Matt Gillham, Daniel Gillham, and Jamie Gillham; six great grandchildren, Keri Bryan, Patrick Bryan, John Bryan, Cooper Raterink, Alex Raterink, and Jenny Raterink; and one nephew, Stirling Hubbard. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Bobby Meadours. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and continue Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of service. Pallbearers are Jim Gillham, John D. Ritchey, Boyd Bryan, Matt Gillham, Daniel Gillham, Ed Bonin, and Danny Ritchey. Honorary pallbearers are all of the close customers / friends that he served happily over 39 years. Memorial contributions may be sent in the name of Irvin Stirling to Community Health Care Center, 215 East Pinhook Road, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501; Louisiana Coastal Conservation Association, P.O. Box 373, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70821; or to the charity of your choice.
