The Life of Mrs. Velvia Jo Field

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009, at 11:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Velvia Jo Cooper Field, 51, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner. Interment will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Lafayette Memorial Park.Reverend Kerry Bellard with The Church in the City in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Chara Bellard, soloist, accompanied by Kiya Jones, guitarist, will sing the musical selections for the services. Survivors include her husband, Chris Field; four sisters, Julia LeBleu, Martha Poirier, Hazel Hebert and Cathy Almeida and her husband Dennis; and two brothers, Roy Cooper and his wife Niki and Orville Cooper.She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix Orville and Virginia Lee Poindexter Cooper; and one sister, Brenda Morvant. A lifelong resident of Lafayette, Velvia graduated from Northside High School in 1976, attended USL (now ULL) and worked at Lafayette General Medical Center in their medical records department for about eight years. She was an active member of Church in the City in Lafayette, having served in the Prison Ministries and enjoying reading scripture and Biblical Studies. Velvia was a loving and caring person who was always willing to help others. She will be dearly missed by family, friends and all who knew her. Pallbearers will be Phillip Cooper, Ryan Alleman, Chris Sonnier, Sean Hebert, David McDonald and Brandon Hebert.The family requests that visitation be observed on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:30 AM until time of service.
