Billy DeWese went home to the Lord on Thursday, May 31, 2007. He was 55 years of age. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Asbury United Methodist Church Reverend Ira Robinson, Associate Pastor of Asbury Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Billy was born in Baytown, Texas on December 5, 1951 to William H. DeWese of Fort Worth, Texas and the former Fosteen Hickman of Walterboro, South Carolina. He has been a resident of Lafayette for the past 49 years. Billy loved Lafayette and the people of this city. During his youth, Bill loved playing football, baseball and basketball. However, basketball was his love and passion and he loved playing the game. During his years at Lafayette High School, Bill shined as a member of the LHS basketball team receiving many honors. Tragically his career was cut short due to an accident at 18 years of age, the day before he was to go to college on a full basketball scholarship. For the past 37 years, Billy has faced many difficult challenges but he was always sustained by his deep faith in God and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This faith allowed him to meet his difficulties with courage, perseverance and positive attitudes. Billy was loved by many. He was blessed by all who were a part of his life and they were touched by him. Billy had five wonderful angels who cared for him for the past ten years, and we are so grateful to Mollie deLauney, Clay Duplechin, Regina Lee, Viola Lewis, and Carrie Malbreaux. Bill loved his church, Asbury Methodist, and was so grateful and appreciative for their constant help. Survivors include one sister, Jennifer Suzette Adair and husband, Donald J. Adair of Metairie; and two nephews, James William Adair of Metairie and Peter DeWese Adair and wife, Stephanie P. Adair of Greenville, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents.
