The Life of Huey Joseph Dugas

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchman Catholic Church in Cankton for Huey Dugas, age 68, who passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 3:30 a.m. at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park in Lafayette. The Rev. Henry J. Broussard, pastor of St. John Berchman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Mr. Dugas was a native and a lifelong resident of Cankton. He was a machinist for M & S Machine Shop for thirty-one years. Mr. Dugas was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict on the USS Bainbridge and the USS Mahopac. Mr. Dugas was a parishioner of St. John Berchman of Cantkon. Survivors include his wife of forty one years, Glenda B. Dugas, of Cankton; his mother Lelia Miller Simon of New Iberia; his step mother, Shirley Mae Babineaux Dugas of Cankton; one son, Shannon Dugas and his fiancé, Sonia Guilbeau, of Sunset; two daughters, Tammie Schexnayder and her husband, Steve, and Jamie Dugas all of Cankton; two brothers, Wilson Joseph Dugas, Jr. and his wife, Gerri, of Cankton and Conrad Dugas and his wife, Karen, of Cecilia; three sisters, Jeanette Broussard and her husband, Merlin, of Carencro, Phyllis Bellard of Cankton and Patsy Miller of Scott; five grandchildren, Steve Schexnayer, II, Trey Guidry, Tyler Guidry, Kylie Guidry and Kyrstin Guidry; and his father in law, Jean Babineaux and his wife, Vivian, of Cankton. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Joseph Dugas, Sr.; his mother in law, Jane Babineaux; and one infant grand son, Brey Guidry. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Monday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Wilson Dugas, Jr., Buddy Dugas, Steve Schexnayder, Calvin Lavergne, Glen Malbrough and John Sabille. Honorary pallbearers will be Shannon Dugas, Steve Schexnayder, II, Merlin Broussard, Conrad Dugas and Scotty Lavergne.
