The Life of Richard L Carr Sr.

Richard L. Carr, Sr. left this life on Saturday, March 12, 2011. He died at the Heart Hospital of Lafayette at 2:57 AM after a short illness. Richard was a native of West Lafayette, OH, but spent most of his years in Lafayette, LA, then in Broussard, LA, where he resided for over twenty years. He served in the United States Air Force from July 19, 1951 to July 18, 1955 during the Korean War. He retired from Bellsouth with over 39 1/2 years of service and was presently employed by Walmart-Pinhook location for ten years. Richard loved his family and also enjoyed fishing, softball and bowling. He was a member of the Dixie League Bowling Team. He leaves to mourn his wife of 18 years, Nadine Bessard Carr; three daughters, Desi-Rae Chatman of Broussard and Roxanne Carr and Nancy B. Carr of Lafayette; four sons, Richard L. Carr, Jr., Jonathon R. Carr and Russell Carr and his wife Sondra, all of Broussard and David R. Chatman of Opelousas; two granddaughters, Samantha and Alexandra Carr of Broussard; and two grandsons, Davion and Dion Chatman of Opelousas. Richard is survived by his brother, Robert and sisters, Helen Ballog, Mary E. Breslin, Dorothy (Cookie) Uther and Joyce Woodburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Anderson Carr and Mary Miller Carr; one brother, John Carr; and two sisters, Harriet Swinger and her husband Levi and Wilma Miller and her husband Bob. Heartfelt compassion and gratitude to Dr. B. Rochon, Dr. B. LeBean, Dr. J. Breaux, Dr. S. Neusetzer and Dr. J. Brierre. The family also extends their gratitude to the staff of the Heart Hospital of Lafayette, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center MICU and 4 East Staff, Louisiana Home Care and Meadowbrook Specialty Hospital. Our gratefulness is beyond measure to The Family Church, Clergy, staff and parishioners, for all the God sent prayers and support. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Rev. Sterling Miller and Rev. Jay Miller of The Family Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Berlyn Glaude, soloist, will sing "Say The Name", "The Air I Breath" and "This Too Shall Pass" for the services. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE Lafayette location on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 8:00 AM until time of service. Pallbearers will be Larry Broussard, Dallas Sonnier Jr., Dallas Sonnier III, Hurley LeDay Jr., Hurley LeDay, III and Howard L. Bessard. Martin & Castille-SOUTHSIDE-600 E.
