The Life of Mary Lane Romero

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Catholic Church for Mary Lane Romero, age 71, the former, Mary Lane Melancon, who passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 at her residence in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Gloria Taylor and Sharon Levasseur. Lectors will be Keri Delhomme and Susan Melancon.

Survivors include one daughter, Monica Hornsby and her husband, Jude Hornsby; two sons, Tony Romero and his wife, Monique and Jarrod Romero and his fiancee, Gloria Taylor; three grandchildren, Ryan Hornsby, Cory Hornsby and Whitney Duplechin; two brothers, Ashley Melancon and his wife, Vivian and Lonny Melancon and his wife, Susan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Felicia "Loon" Cormier Melancon; her paternal grandparents, Gilbert and Edmonia Melancon and maternal grandparents, Rene and Marie Cormier.

Mary was born on April 2, 1940 in Catahoula, Louisiana and was a resident of Lafayette for forty nine years. She was a devout parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church and volunteered at the Carmelite Monastery for 21 years. She was employed with the Onebane Law Firm for forty five years as a legal assistant to John Bernard and Greg Guidry. She was a dedicated mother, sister, friend and a loving grandmother who attended all events involving her grandchildren. Mary was famous for baking "Aunt Mary''s Cookies" and she enjoyed gardening and going to the movies with her friends and family. Mary looked forward to her Sunday family dinners she graciously prepared with love for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those whom she touched with her beautiful spirit.

Pallbearers will be Barry, Randy, Kevin, Jonathan, and Dustin Melancon, Mark Dugas, Ryan and Cory Hornsby.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Jake Delhomme.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM and on Wednesday from 7:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to all the family and friends who helped or offered their assistance during this difficult time. May God bless all of you.
