The Life of Rena Truxillo

A Funeral Mass and Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday August 24, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church for Rena Miller Truxillo who passed on to the loving arms of her heavenly Father on August 21, 2011. Rena was born in Evangeline [Jennings] on September 23, 1923, raised in Jennings, Louisiana and has been a resident of Lafayette for the last 56 years. She was one of ten children of Ben and Anna Miller and was the granddaughter of Jules Clement, on whose farm the first oil well in Louisiana was drilled. Rena was married to Jack A. Truxillo, Jr. on August 17, 1948 and together they had six children. Rena is survived by her children, Chris Leger, her husband Albert ''Butch'' Leger - Lafayette, Pat Boudreaux '' Lafayette, Doug Truxillo, his wife Michelle '' Lafayette, Jerry Truxillo, his wife Kathy '' Pensacola, Florida, Tony Truxillo, his wife Tina '' Lafayette and Vicki Truxillo '' Lafayette. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Hains, Stacy Clement (Terry), Joey Hains (Brittany), Zack Boudreaux, Lindsey Boudreaux, Megan Boudreaux, Laura Truxillo, Molly Truxillo, Jack Truxillo, Kellie Truxillo and Amanda Truxillo, step grandchildren Stephanie Leger Short (Toby), Brian Leger (Donna), Josh Domingue and Lance Domingue, and her great grandchildren, Daniel Leblanc, Caleb Clark, Henry Clement, Alex Clement, Seth Short and Cooper Short. She is survived by her brother, Ben Miller (Martha), her brother-in-law, Lynn Domingues and her sisters, Anita Tarver, Myrle Landry, Joyce Davis, Irma Jones (Harry), Vern DiCristina, Barbara Riech (Ray) and Bernetta Summers (Dreux). She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Jack A. Truxillo, Jr., her parents, Ben and Anna Miller and her sister Cue Domingues, brother-in-laws Elmo Tarver, J. P. Landry, Bill Davis and Casimir DiCristina. Miss Rena had been a 20 year Pink Lady Volunteer at Lafayette General Hospital, a long-time volunteer with Our Lady of Fatima School and St. Mary Church. A loving daughter, sister, devoted wife and mother and proud grandmother, she was tireless in her love and support of her family. She was a woman of immense faith and although Alzheimer''s did eventually take its toll on her it also revealed a quick wit and an ability to continue to teach family, friends and even strangers to remember to laugh and love life and always enjoy the moment. Thanks for the countless Sunday dinners with the family, for you truly were ''a good cooker, Maw-Maw''. Thank you for instilling your faith in God and your patience with us, thanks for the joy, laughter and love you brought into all of our lives and for always ''zigging'' when everyone thought you would ''zag''. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful Resident Assistants at Garden View Assisted Living who lovingly cared for and assisted Miss Rena while she was living there including her compassionate sitter, Sara Gonzales in these last several weeks. The family also would like to express a special note of appreciation to Dr. Ken McCarron for all his care, guidance and friendship to her and the family over the years. Pallbearers are her sons Doug, Jerry and Tony Truxillo, grandsons Joey Hains, Zack Boudreaux and Jack Truxillo and son-in-law Albert ''Butch'' Leger. Visitation is from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm on Tuesday August 23, 2011 at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 419 Doucet Road, Lafayette, Louisiana. She will be entombed with her husband Jack at Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery, immediately after the funeral Mass. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer''s Association, P.O.
