The Life of Dorothy Fay Blakely
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at a 10:00 AM Service in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Dorothy Fay Blakely, 89, who passed away peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2010 at her residence in Lafayette.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will conduct the funeral services. Tom Niel, organist, will play for the services.Dorothy is survived by her sister, Mildred R. Blakely; cousins, Quincy "Bo" and Julienne Craig of Scott, LA., Mina Zoe Craig of Kerrville, TX., Claude Blakely and family of Lafayette, LA., Helen Del Corel of New Orleans, LA. and Dick and Mary Beadle of Dallas, TX.She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearson and Cherie Delahoussaye Blakely.Miss Blakely was a resident of Lafayette and the daughter of Cherie Delahoussaye and Pearson Blakely. She was a graduate of Tulane University with distinction, with a major in languages and a minor in American History. She taught history classes at Lafayette High School and worked with student teachers at UL. She was much respected by her students and made an impression on many young lives who remembered her fondly long after they had graduated. She was a kind and loyal daughter, sister, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.The family wished to give special thanks to all those who helped and supported us during her time of illness, Mary Andrus, Charmaine Borel, Joyce Brown, Louis Cornay, Frances Feast, Elizabeth Gauthreaux, Lisa Noel and Flo Rubin as well as to the Senior Nurses from UL School of Nursing and Heart of Hospice.A Rosary will be prayed by Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 9:00 AM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home's Downtown Location.The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
