The Life of Helen Marie Godeaux

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Helen. M. Godeaux, age 74, the former Helen Marie Lavergne, who passed away Monday, August 11, 2008 at 7:30 a.m. at Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park in Lafayette. The Rev. Father Bill Melancon, pastor of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Helen M. Godeaux was a native of Swords and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life. Survivors include two sons, Aldus Mayeaux, Jr. of Church Point, and Larry Joseph Mayeaux of Lafayette; four daughters, Mary Guidry and her husband, Robert of Lafayette, Kathy Bird and her husband, Ronnie of Carencro, Dianna Richard and her husband, Harold of Maurice, and Becky Thibodeaux and her husband, Timmy of Church Point; six brothers, Felix Lavergne and his wife, Laura of Baton Rouge, Jessie Lavergne, Sr. of Lafayette, Lawrence Lavergne, Jr. of San Antonio, Jimmy Lavergne and his wife, Sue of Breaux Bridge, Joseph D. Lavergne and his wife, Bertha of Lafayette, and Connie J. Lavergne of Carencro; five sisters, Gladys Lavergne of Lafayette, Betty Marks and her husband, Lee of Sunset, Clorita Brown and her husband, Edrick of Scott, Ethel Wilson and her husband, Frank, of Portland, OR, and Barbara Roberts of Breaux Bridge; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 2nd husband, Yves Godeaux, and by her 1st husband, Aldus Mayeaux, Sr.; her parents, Lawrence Lavergne, Sr. and her mother, the former, Louisiana Richard both natives of Church Point; and one granddaughter, Lela Bird; and one son-in-law, Earnest Dugas. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be her brothers.
