The Life of Sevelia Sonnier

Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for Sevelia V. Sonnier, 75, who passed away on January 1, 2009 at 4:30 am at her residence. Reverend Hampton Davis, Pator of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Alysia Sonnier, Nicole Bercejeay and Angelle Bercejeay. Serving as Eucharistic Ministers will be Roberta Wetzel and Lisa Breaux. Readers will be Jeanne Devalcourt and Laurie J. James. Rachel Gaspard, soloist, accompanied on the organ by Andre Courville, will sing for the services, "Ave Maria", "On Eagles Wings"'', "Amazing Grace" and "Here I Am Lord". Interment will take place in Holy Mary, Mother of God Cemetery. Mrs. Sonnier, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Theal Vincent and the former Olite Petrie both of Gueydan, Louisiana. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen Sonnier and her husband, David Eason of Lafayette; two sons, Stephen B. Sonnier and his wife, Rebecca Gardes of Lafayette and David Sonnier and his wife, Debbie of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Mandy West and her husband, Brandon of Monroe, Kory M. Sonnier and his wife, Rebecca of Baton Rouge, Brittany Sonnier of Alexandria, Alysia Sonnier of Lafayette, Beau Sonnier, USMC of Pensacola, Florida, Josh Sonnier of Lafayette and Tyler Sonnier of Lafayette;three step grandchildren, John Brannon, Nicole Bercejeay and Angelle Bercejeay; one great grandson, Michael Alexander West; and four sisters, Gladys Newman of Rayne, Francis Guidry of Sulphur, Dorothy Chaisson of Sulphur and Laura LeBlanc of Iota. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert B. Sonnier; one son, Michael Albert Sonnier D.D.S.; one step grandson, Jeremy M. Brannon; one sister, Lovonia Vincent; and four brothers, Archie, Louis, Allen and Anatole Vincent. The family wishes to give special thanks to Mary Sonnier Eason for her sacrifice and unselfish dedication in caring for their mother over the past three years. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 am until service time. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home on Friday at 6:00 pm.
