The Life of George Aucoin

Funeral services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at St. Edmond Catholic Church for George Aucoin, 77, who passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Timothy Richard, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Aucoin, a native of Rayne and a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Dudley Aucoin and the former Clarice Dupuis both of Rayne. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. George worked for 38 years at Evangeline Motors. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy B. Aucoin of Lafayette; three daughters, Linda A. Poole and her husband, Paul A. of Lafayette, Brenda A. Longrie of Duson, and Sandra A. Aucoin of Lafayette; two sons, Darrell W. Aucoin of Lafayette, and Terry W. Aucoin and his wife, Caroline of Lafayette; twelve grandchildren, George Rich, Michelle Rich Erny, Michael Longrie, Steven Longrie, Crystal Benoit, Derek Aucoin, Darrin Aucoin, Dustin Aucoin, Brady Breaux, Megan Aucoin, Matthew Aucoin, and Chance Poole; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Stutes and her husband, Harry Lee of Rayne; and two brothers, Irvin Aucoin of Duson, and John A. Aucoin of Rayne. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Maryon Hebert, Anna Jean Theriot, Natalie Miller, Shirley Gotte, and Barbara Whalen; and one brother, Julien Aucoin, Sr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Tuesday from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm and continue Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Randy Hyde at 7:00 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. Pallbearers are Terry Aucoin, George Rich, Brady Breaux, Matthew Aucoin, Darrell Aucoin, and Billy Rich. Honorary pallbearers are Oran Hebert, Irvin Aucoin, John Aucoin, and David Michel Erny. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, will be in charge of the arrangements.
