The Life of Merrill Louis David

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM for Merrill Louis David, 69, who passed away unexpectedly on April 26, 2008 at 3:00 PM in Lafayette. The mass will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Youngsville.Interment will be at Lafayette Memorial Park.Reverend Jason Mouton, Celebrant and Pastor of St. Anne's Catholic Church, along with Concelebrants, Reverend Jody Simoneaux, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Jeanerette, and Reverend William Gearheard, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church in Milton will conduct the funeral Mass. Also participating in the services will be Deacon Steve Simon. Giftbearers will be Kristine Lelong, Sonya David and Russell Hebert, Jr. Lectors will be F. Rivers Lelong, Jr. and Janis Tribe. Jan Judice, soloist, accompanied by Deborah Duhon, organist, Lauren Baker, violinist and Paul Morton, trumpeter will sing for the services.Mr. David is survived by his wife of 46 years, Irene Tribe David of Youngsville; daughters, Kristine David Lelong and her husband, Francis Rivers, Jr. of New Orleans and Sonya David of New Orleans; and grandson, Francis Rivers Lelong, III.He was preceded in death by his parents Meonce David and Edith Guilbeau David; and his brother, Neil David.A native of Carencro, Mr. David resided in Youngsville for the past 43 years. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy. He served in the US Army working in military hospitals in Denver, Colorado and Honolulu, Hawaii.He was a pharmacist for the past 48 years. In his early career, he managed several drugstores in Berwick and New Iberia. For nearly 30 years, he owned Farmer's Drugs and Gifts in Youngsville. Upon retirement, he continued to work as a pharmacist at Farmer's Drugs and in drugstores in Arnaudville, Opelousas, New Iberia and Grosse Tete. He volunteered as a pharmacist at the Lafayette Community Healthcare Clinic. He was a founding partner of Louisiana Wholesale Drugs. His professional memberships included Teche Area Pharmacists' Association, Lafayette Parish Pharmacists' Association and the Louisiana Pharmacist Association. He was a member of the Lion's Club of Youngsville, Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus , the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Krewe of Triton, the Krewe des Amis and the New Orleans Opera Association.Visitation will be at Martin & Castille Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Wednesday April 30, 2008, from 8 AM until 10:30 AM.During visitation, Deacon Julian Judice will recite a rosary on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 7:00 PM. A prayer service will be performed by Reverend Bert Langley at 6:00 PM.Pallbearers will be Frank Angerame, Gray Stephens, Rivers Lelong, Jr., Vincent David, Russell Hebert and Tommy Bryan.Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Leleux, Ted Richard, Sam Canava, Marcus Denais, John Knox, Ronnie Reaux, Fred Stoutes, Howell Dennis, Andy Soileau and Ivan Landry.Donations may be made to Pharmacy Student Scholarship Fund at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, College of Pharmacy.
