The Life of James C Monteleon Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for James "Jimmy" C. Monteleon, Sr., 92, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at his residence in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery in Lafayette. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include two sons, James "Jim" Monteleon, Jr. and his wife, Debbie and Richard P. Monteleon; six grandchildren, Shawn Larre, Ricky Monteleon, Brent Monteleon, Samantha Monteleon, Kali Monteleon and Justin Monteleon; eight great grandchildren, Bryce, Foster, Marco, Gian, Roman, Hayden, Ashton and Kurstin; and one sister, Ada Mae Hebert. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Fay B. Monteleon; his parents, John and Ada Mae Webb Monteleon; three brothers, Lionel, John and Stanley Monteleon; and one sister, Elaine Gerac. A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mr. Monteleon was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was a 1936 Graduate of Cathedral High School and the last member of that class to pass away. He went on to join the United States Army where he became a supply Sergeant and proudly served his country during the Battle of the Bulge. Following his service in the Army, Mr. Monteleon went on to work at Lafayette Motor Company as an auto body repairman. He then moved on to work for Schenley Distributors and the Bologna Brothers as a salesman. Later in his career, Mr. Monteleon went into business for himself, putting up displays for those liquor distributors until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and working in his shop at home. Mr. Monteleon loved spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be Justin Monteleon, Brent Monteleon, Ricky Monteleon, Foster Monteleon, Sonny Monteleon and Bryce Ellzey. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location. The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of services. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to Home Health Care 2000, especially Renesha and Jennifer, for their love, laughter and professionalism, and a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice for their kindness and compassion given to Mr. Monteleon during his time of need.
