The Life of Mazie Lorinda Butchee

Lafayette - Despite her travels of the world, Cindy, as most knew her, took the ultimate journey Tuesday, November 6, 2007 to be with her Lord & Savior. Born in Ashe County, North Carolina as Mazie Lorinda Craven, February 19, 1937, and raised on a farm with five siblings: Pearl Jean, Tommy, Lenna, Joe & Jerry, little did she know that she would meet & marry a man from Oakdale, Louisiana. Becoming Mrs. Richard E. Butchee, Sr. at a small house wedding, her travels then began south to Louisiana. Cindy’s talents & love for people took her into the banking industry for many years, during which time her & Richard had three children: Lori, Traci & Richard, Jr. Richard Sr’s career then took his family overseas where for ten years or so Cindy lovingly & selflessly made homes away from home for her family. Upon their return to the United States, and settling in Lafayette, LA in 1980, Cindy returned to work. Beginning in the Cash Office, she ultimately retired with Wal-Mart, Inc in 1998 as a Door Greeter, where she lovingly placed a “smiley face” on the wrist of each child that came through the door. As Alzheimers began to take hold, Cindy’s journeys outside the home became difficult. Knowing her eventual destination, Cindy courageously faced her battle with her family by her side to guide her home. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene & Grace Craven, her husband, Richard E Butchee, Sr., and a grandson, Michael Mathew Butchee. Though Blessings may be hard to find in the realms of Alzheimers, the disease protected Cindy from the losses she never knew. Survivors include her Mother-in-Law, Mildred Butchee, two daughters, Lori Trahan Gallet and her husband Kirk; Traci B. Patin and her companion Ray Domingue; one son, Richard E. Butchee, Jr. and his companion Michelle Marcantel; a grandson, Brook Trahan and his wife Crystal; a grandson, Richard Trahan and his companion Jessica Eley; a grandson, Jimmy Joe Grundy; a grandson, Tylor Patin; a grand-daughter, Katie Butchee; two great-grandsons, Chase Cooper & Kade Trahan, and three great-granddaughters, Melani Cooper, Kara Trahan and Brooklyn Trahan. Her sixth grandchild is expected in April, 2008. Surviving siblings include two sisters, Pearl Jean Miller and her companion Lupe Areiga, & Lenna Rae Gray; and three brothers, Tommy Craven and his wife Shirley, Joe Craven and his wife Nadine, and Jerry Craven and his wife Linda, a sister-in-law, Mildred Cochran and her husband Robert, a brother-in-law, Roy Butchee, Jr. and his wife Wiladine, a brother-in-law Tom Harrell and his wife Kathy.
