The Life of Merlin George Billeaud

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at a 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Mr. Merlin G. Billeaud, 80, who passed away peacefully on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Reverend Howard Blessing, Shepherd of Holy Cross Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Karen Broussard will be the organist for the services. Survivors include his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Melba Dean Waguespack Billeaud; one daughter, Tammy Billeaud Hebert; one grandchild, Kaelyn Hebert; all of Lafayette; and one brother, A. James Billeaud of Broussard. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Rene Billeaud, who passed away in 1989; his parents, Rene and Isaure Richard Billeaud; and two brothers, Herbert Billeaud and Glenn Billeaud. Mr. Billeaud was born in Scott on August 26, 1929, but lived most of his life in Lafayette. He graduated from SLI (now ULL) with a Degree in Accounting and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the co-owner of Billeaud Water Well Drilling. He and his wife co-owned Merlin Billeaud Sand Company, Inc. and he was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the American Discount Corporation. Mr. Billeaud's favorite and self-taught hobby, following his retirement, was woodworking and crafting an assortment of things. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Pallbearers will be James Billeaud, Burnell Waguespack, Brent Waguespack, Brian Waguespack, Duane Billeaud and Danny Credeur. Honorary Pallbearers will be J. Roy and Edwis "Raccoon" Martin. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and Louisiana Extended Care Hospital for their compassion given to Mr. Billeaud during his stay. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Billeaud's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
