The Life of George Noel Magnon Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius X Catholic Church for George Noel Magnon, Jr., 72, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at his residence in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Lecia Magnon, Missy Magnon and Carol Magnon. Giftbearers will be Madeline Magnon, Jenna Partimbene and Allison Magnon. Madeline Magnon and Denise Brignac will sing for the services, "Ave Maria", "You Are Mine", "Taste and See", "I Have Loved You", "On Eagles' Wings" and "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling". Mr. Magnon is survived by his beloved wife, the former Barbara Nell Broussard of Scott ; three sons, Brett Magnon and his wife, Lecia, Thomas Jason Magnon and his wife, Carol and Wendell Magnon and his wife, Missy; one daughter, Marla Magnon Partimbene and her husband, Laurent; one brother, Laurent Charles Magnon; and seven grandchildren, Allison and Blake Magnon, Matthew Magnon, Madeline and Braydon Magnon, Jenna and Alexandre Partimbene all of Lafayette, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Noel Magnon, Sr. and Vera Mae Bertrand Magnon. George, Jr. was a native, life-long resident and prominent businessman of Lafayette, the son of the late George Noel Magnon, Sr. and Vera Mae Bertrand. He graduated from Cathedral Catholic School in 1956 and was a State All American in football. After high school he entered the Marine Corp and married Barbara Nell Broussard. George Jr. followed in his fathers footsteps and continued the family business, Magnon Electric, Inc, established in 1945 by his father, he then retired in 1991. Today the business is still owned and operated by family. He served eight years in the United States Marine Corps, was a member of the NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) and also served as the National Director of FMCA. Mr. Magnon was also active in many organizations and clubs, especially those involving the outdoors, including Crusing Cajuns Camping Club, The Outlaws Camping Club, The Rejects Camping Club and the "Friends" Camping Club. He was also an avid fisherman and belonged to the Lafayette Bass Masters and loved boats and being on the water. Mr. Magnon was a devoted Catholic and supported the Brothers of De La Salle and the Discalced Carmelite Sisters faithfully. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be his sons, Brett Noel Magnon, Thomas Jason Magnon, Wendell Paul Magnon, Laurent Partimbene, his grandsons, Braydon Magnon and Blake Magnon. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Matthew Magnon and Alexandre Partimbene. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location. The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
