The Life of Elwin Bennett

Lafayette - Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 2 PM at David Funeral Home in Lafayette for Elwin Bennett, 95. Mr. Bennett was born June 6, 1910 in Rocky Mound, Texas to William Robert Bennett and Icephenia Irene Kennedy Bennett, and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at his residence in Broussard. The Rev. Noah Langley will conduct the funeral service and interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette. He was a retired Seismic Surveyor who was employed for over 53 years in seismic exploration in the U.S., Haiti, and Sumatra, as well as in the Gulf of Mexico. He was employed for 32 years by Petty Geophysical and for 18 years by Teledyne Exploration. He was a life long domino player who could and did beat all who challenged him and was an avid bowler and bowled on many leagues at Acadiana Lanes until May 2005. In September of 2003 he received a certificate of special recognition from the Lafayette Bowling Association for his dedication and longevity in the sport of bowling. He is survived by three daughters, Kathe Begnaud and her husband Richard of Scott, Lynne Gross of Broussard, and Ardra Morgan and her husband Marty of Eupora, MS; two sons, David Bennett of Houston, TX and Miles Bennett of Breaux Bridge; two sisters, Doris Roquemore and her husband Frank of Palestine, TX and Adelle Trigg of Elkhart, TX; ten grandchildren, Mary Pritchard, Sarah Gross, Carol Arabie, Rae Gross, Helen Dartez, Rickey Begnaud, Angela Bennett, Logan Bennett, Blake Bennett, and Taylor Bennett; ten great grandchildren, Brenna and William Pritchard, Kyle Gross, Bronson Arabie, Jake Buck, Sarah and Tyler Dartez, Brandon and Beau Begnaud, and Cheyenne Credeur; and his faithful canine companion, Molly. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Logan Bennett; a son, Capt. Steven Logan Bennett; a granddaughter, Rachel Faith Credeur; a son-in-law, George Monroe Gross; his parents; sisters, Dorris Bennett, Lula Gray, and Junie Rosson; brothers, Odelle, W.T., Eldridge, and Fagan Bennett. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 from 6 PM until 8 PM and on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service. Serving as pallbearers will be David Bennett, Miles Bennett, Marty Morgan, Richard Begnaud, Ricky Begnaud, and Danny Trigg. The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana for all the care and kindnesses shown during the past weeks, especially to Laurie, Kelly, and Brandy.
