The Life of Frances Frey Dugas

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Frances Frey Dugas, 88, who passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2007 at her residence in Lafayette.Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery in Lafayette.Reverend Gerald Burns, nephew and Pastor of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Concelebrants will be her brother in law, Reverend Jerome Dugas, Reverend Msgr. Harry E. Benefiel and Reverend Jerome Frey. Jodi Bollich, soloist, accompanied by Tom Neil, organist, will sing for the funeral Mass. Giftbearers will be her granddaughters and great grandchildren, Dawn Kallio, Angie Miller and Danielle Dugas. Lectors will be granddaughters, Jennifer Piendel, Jessica Miller and Renee Patrick. Prayers of the Faithful will be read by granddaughters, Darlene LeBlanc and Alane Meaux. Acolyte will be her great grandson, Christopher Meaux.Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Dugas Landry and her husband, Darrel Landry of Lafayette, LA. Mary Catherine Dugas Campbell and her husband, Raymond Campbell of Mesa, Arizona, and Annette Dugas Patrick and her husband, Stephen Patrick of Lewiston, Illinois; three sons, Roland Dugas, Jr. and his wife Amelie Dupuis Dugas of Lafayette, LA., Richard Dugas and his wife, Martha Whittington Dugas of Brusly, LA., and Albert Dugas and his wife, Joan Ortego Dugas of Parker, Colorado; thirty-one loving grandchildren; fifty-three loving great grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Inez Frey Jolley of Denham Springs, LA., Vivian Frey Hernandez of Harahan, LA., and Bernadette Frey Meyer of River Ridge, LA.; and one sister in law, Shirley Blouin Frey of Donaldsonville, LA.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roland F. Dugas, Sr.; her parents, Louis M. Frey and Louise Reimer Frey; two sisters, Louise Frey Sullivan and Agnes Frey; two brothers, John Frey and Louis Frey; one grandson, Benjamin Patrick; and one great-grandson, Ian Landry.A native of New Orleans, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for over 60 years, Mrs. Dugas was employed as a nurse for many years until her retirement. Her most rewarding job was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, but those who knew her best affectionately called her "Granny". Granny''s smiles and love for life will live on in all of the babies she tenderly cared for. She was a longtime parishioner of St. John Cathedral Parish and currently a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church Community, where she served on the Ladies Altar Society and was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Secular Carmelites. She spent her time volunteering for Hospice of Acadiana and at St. Pius Elementary and was a member of the Pink Ladies Auxillary at LGMC and Lourdes Hospital.She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed not only by family and friends, but by all of those whose lives she has touched throughout the years.Pallbearers will be Roland Dugas, III, Richard Dugas, Jr., Steven Landry, David Campbell, Jeff Patrick and Chad Dugas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Dugas, Andre Dugas, Darrel Jude Landry, Casey Landry, Nick Patrick, and Dan Patrick.The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday, January 14, 2007 from 1:00 PM until time of services, at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette.Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Dugas'' name to Hospice of Acadiana 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200 Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.The family would like to give special thanks to Granny''s sitters, Dinelle Guidry, Louise Guidry, Kathleen Hebert, April Goodyear, Angie Crouch, Pat Breaux, Emily Mullins, Joyce Mills, and Hazel Landry, for their kindness and gentle care shown to her during her time of need.
