The Life of Lou Helen Benoit

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Lou Helen Guilbeau Benoit, 79, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette surrounded by her family. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Michael Keith Landry, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church of Cow Island, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be April Benoit and Mitzi Benoit Dorman. Giftbearers will be Cyndi Benoit and Sheila Benoit. Musical selections will be provided by Wade Falcon. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Benny James Benoit and his wife, Sheila Vidrine Benoit and Mike Anthony Benoit and his wife, Cyndi Romero Benoit all of Lafayette; her grandchildren, Jake Benoit and his wife, Corrie Cazayoux Benoit, Brett Benoit, April Amanda Benoit, Mitzi Benoit Dorman and her husband, Heath Dorman; great grandchildren, Jaycie Elizabeth Benoit and Jacob Scott Benoit; and two sisters, Audrey Guilbeau Faulk of Abbeville and Betty Guilbeau Cormier and her husband, Ronald of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Roland James Benoit, who was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean conflict; one grandson, Scott Joseph Benoit; her parents, Adonis and Gloria Moss Guilbeau; one brother, Minus Guilbeau; and her sisters, Florence Guilbeau, Nellie Guilbeau, Eula Mae Guilbeau, Lucy Ruth Brunson, Patsy Guilbeau and Lorena G. Hawkins; her maternal grandparents, Nickolas Moss and the former Mary Blanchard and paternal grandparents, Caesar Guilbeau and the former Emelie Fouvel. A native of Broussard, Louisiana and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Benoit was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a dedicated employee of Bell South Telephone Company for over 32 years until her retirement in 1982. Lou was a member of the Bell South Pioneers and enjoyed the monthly outings with her former co-workers. "Lou", as she was known to her family and friends, loved working with crafts and watching sports on T.V. with her husband and sons. She was a loyal L.S.U. Tiger fan. Lou was a great cook and often prepared large meals for her family and friends to enjoy. Lou was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Community in Lafayette. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE Lafayette location on Friday, November 11, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed by Danny Delhomme on Friday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Benny Benoit, Mike Benoit, Jake Benoit, Brett Benoit, Fred Benoit and Heath Dorman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Cormier and Mark Landry.
