The Life of Lawrence Menard

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Lawrence Menard, 83, who passed away peacefully on January 27, 2011 at 7:40 pm at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Reverend Millard G. Boyer will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Menard, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Eddie Menard, Sr. of Cankton, Louisiana and the former Gladys Cormier of Bristol, Louisiana. Lawrence grew up in Carencro working on his family''s farm alongside his 7 brothers and sisters, where they gave him the nickname Tee-Lou. He proudly served our country in the Army as a Medical Detachment 657th Airman in WWII. While stationed in Germany he met and married his beloved Anita "Oma" Brendel Menard. They resided in Lafayette with their 5 children and were married 58 years until her death in 2006. As a lover of life, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed the outdoors as a gardener and fisherman. Listening to Cajun music, having crawfish and crab boils and fish fries with family and friends were some of his greatest joys. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Lawrence will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him. He has finally Gone Fishing.

Left to cherish his memories are his children; daughter, Kathy M. Pourciaux and husband, Alan of Rayne; four sons, Raymond A. Menard and wife, Diane of The Woodlands, TX, Herbert L. Menard and wife, Jan of Elm Grove, LA, Paul E. Menard of Lafayette, and Stephen Menard and fianc'' Katherine Bourque of New Iberia, LA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one sister, Belvadine Costello and husband, Greg of Youngsville; one brother, Alvin Menard and wife, Hilda of Youngsville.

Lawrence now rests in Heaven with his devoted wife, Anita "Oma" Menard, his parents, one sister, Anna Grace Bourque; and four brothers, Eddie Menard, Jr., Aaron Menard, Earl Menard, and Floyd Menard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Saturday from 9:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited by Catherine Autin on Friday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Menard, Herbert Menard, Stephen Menard, Alan Pourciaux, Charles Fremin, and Barrett Payne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Menard, and Alvin Menard.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and nurses on the 8th floor of the Oncology Department at Lafayette General Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Menard''s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Ste 200, Lafayette, LA, 70503.
