The Life of Rene Joseph Sigur Jr.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 18, 2009 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edmond Catholic Church for Rene Joseph Sigur, Jr., age 83, who passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 in the Magnolia Estates Nursing Home. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Timothy Richard, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Survivors include his children, Nicholas Sigur and his wife, Rosemary of Lafayette, Peggy Abshire and her husband, Ray of Lafayette, Pat Elliott and her husband, Ken of Carencro, Joan Codina of Youngsville, Steven Sigur and his partner, Yen Chong of El Sobrante'' California, Michael Sigur and his wife, Mary Ann of Port Arthur, Texas, Cathy Leyva and her husband, Michael of Taft, California and Jimmy Sigur and his wife, Cheryl of Lafayette; eighteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and one sister, Rita Frederick of Abbeville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rene Sigur, Sr. and Armosa LaPorte Sigur; his wife, Mary Lou Meaux Sigur; one daughter, Mary Gail Couvillion; one grandson, Jason P. Sigur; two sisters, Myrtle Gajan and Clara Mae Smith and one brother, Fred T. Sigur. Born on September 12, 1925, Mr. Sigur was a native of Abbeville and a resident of Lafayette since 1967. He was a veteran of military service, having served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II in the 4th Marine Division. He was also a member of the Acadiana Marine Corp League. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed Sunday from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
