The Life of Jack Edward Eames

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 3:00pm in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery for Jack Edward "Paw Paw" Jack Eames, 97, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2009 in Lafayette, surrounded by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Robert Eames and his wife, Jackie; three daughters, Cherrie Eames Bourgeois, Linda "Jo-Jo" Eames Lavergne and her husband, Rodney and Mary Ellen Eames Smith and her companion, Dallas Granger; eleven grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters with a third due in August. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Griffith "Jody" "Granny Red" Eames; one grandson, Jeffrey Paul Bourgeois; and his parents. Jack Edward Eames was born in Atterberry, Illinois and grew up in Medicine Bow, Wyoming. He married the love of his life, Joan "Jody" Eames and raised his family in Wyoming and Oklahoma, where he worked as a rig builder. Jack was also a successful cowboy in the rodeo circuit where he rode saddle bronc and bareback while traveling across the United States. He moved his family to Louisiana, in 1957, where he and his wife owned and operated Guthrie''s Cottages, located on Lake Bruin, for over five years. Jack and his wife settled in Church Point, Louisiana where he lived for over 26 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting at Buckhorn Lease in Tensas Parish, Louisiana, and fishing the waters of Henderson and Butte La Rose, often with his wife, daughters and grandchildren. Jack enjoyed watching sports especially baseball, golf and football. He often rooted for the Saints and LSU, but always remained true to his roots and cheered for Oklahoma often. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and friend to all who knew him. Jack will be dearly missed not only by family and friends, but by all of those whose lives he has touched throughout the many years of his life. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Home Health Care including his nurse, Donna Duhon, Hospice of Acadiana and Taylor Medical Supply for their kindness compassion and care given to Jack and his family during their time of need.
