The Life of Mary Lee Cormier
Lafayette – Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church for Mary Lee Chiasson Cormier, 79, who, after a brief illness, quietly passed away at her daughter’s home in Lafayette on April 17, 2009. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mary Lee Chiasson Cormier was born November 22, 1929 to the late Columbus and Mary T. Daniel Chiasson of Scott, LA. She was married to a loving husband of 53 years, Raymond L. Cormier, Sr. She retired from the Lafayette Parish School Board after ten years as a Cafeteria Technician. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Ladies Auxiliary Court 206, American Legion Auxiliary Post 504, Conservative Pokeno Club, Ten Plus One Pokeno Club and the Lunch Box Plus One Card Club. She will be remembered as a kind person who lovingly and unselfishly helped people. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Raymond L. Cormier, Sr.; her seven wonderful children, Imelda (Michael) Zeno of Lafayette, LA, Raymond L.(Barbara) Cormier, Jr. of Henderson, NV, Gwendolyn (Johnny) Hixon of Jacksonville, FL, Ronald J.(Gwendolyn) Cormier, Sr. of Lafayette, LA, Katherine (Stephen) Rawlins of Raleigh, NC, Kenneth (Lisa) Cormier of Raleigh, NC, Charlene E. (Charles) Harrison of Lafayette, LA; 24 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two devoted sisters, Novella (Alton, Sr.) Dugas and Mable (Alfred) Malveaux, both of Lafayette, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Mary T. Daniel Chiasson; one sister, Rosamae Chiasson Hebert; two brothers, J. Warner Chiasson and Floyd Chiasson Sr.; one sister-in-law, Barbara Comeaux Chiasson; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Cormier, Sr. and Perlis Plumbar.
Visitation will be held Saturday April 25, 2009 at Syrie Funeral Home beginning at 7 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m and another at 9:45 a.m.
