The Life of Eugene Paul Watson

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the flowers for Eugene P. Watson, 80, who passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at his residence. Rev. Ed Boyd, Pastor of Asbury Methodist Church will officiate at the services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park in Lafayette. "Gene" was born on November 14, 1926 in St. Louis Missouri. Following an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army after serving in World War II, Gene enrolled at the Missouri School of Mines where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1951. He began his career in the electrical utility industry shortly thereafter applying his trade in St. Louis Missouri, San Diego California, New Orleans Louisiana and Lafayette. After a two week retirement in 1995, he entered the oil and gas industry as a Landman and continued to work until shortly before his death. Mr. Watson was a member of the Spirit of St. Louis Masonic Lodge of Webster Groves Missouri and the American Legion. During his life, Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing, golf and coaching Little League Baseball. He was also an ardent fan of both St. Louis Cardinal and U.L. Ragin Cajun baseball. Most of all he loved having his family around him where they would enjoy his very funny sense of humor. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce Watson of Lafayette, his daughter Diane and her husband Ron Glasgow of Mandeville, Louisiana, his son Dave and his wife Cindy Watson of Lafayette, two Grandchildren, Katie Watson of New Orleans, Louisiana and Brian Watson of Lafayette, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton R. Watson and Lottie Forsberg Watson; three deceased brothers, Harry Watson, Rosler Watson and Byron Watson, all of St. Louis Missouri. Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of services. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. Gene Brierre, Dr. Julian Krawczyk and Dr. Phillip Perret and the nurses and staff of Hospice of Acadiana. Pallbearers will be Brian Watson, Ron Glasgow, Bob Watson, Joe Phillips, Dan Hughes and Rick Dupuis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Boyer, "Mac" Simmons and Brian Parker. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Watson requested that contributions be made to the Hospice of Acadiana, www.hospiceacadiana.com or 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette is in charge of funeral arrangements.
