The Life of Philip George Lokey Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 25, 2008 at an 11:00 AM Service in First Baptist Church of Lafayette for Philip George Lokey, Sr., 80, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Meadowbrook Hospital in Lafayette, surrounded by his family.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Perry Sanders, Pastor Emeritus, assisted by Reverend Steve Horn and Reverend Luther Burney will officiate the funeral services. Ramona Carmichael and Luther Burney, vocalists, accompanied on the organ by Sharon Ringo will sing for the services, "The Lord''s Prayer", "His Eye On The Sparrow" and "How Great Thou Art".Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Nell Beacham Lokey of Lafayette; two sons, Philip Lokey, Jr. and his wife, Vickie of Youngsville and Mark Lokey and his wife, Debbie of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren, Jacob Lokey, Joshua Lokey and Tyler Lokey.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.A native of Henderson, Texas and resident of Lafayette for over 50 years, Mr. Lokey was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was a 1945 graduate of Palestine High School, and later enrolled in Sam Houston State Teachers College. In 1946 Mr. Lokey attended Kilgore College on a football scholarship, and later that year enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country for two years. In 1948 he entered Baylor University as a sophomore, and after marrying the love of his life, Nell, Mr. Lokey graduated in 1950 with a BBA Degree, and later that summer attended classes to receive his Texas Teaching Certificate. He was a school teacher for the public school system from 1950 to 1952, having taught in Edinburg, Texas and nightly business courses at Pan American College. Mr. Lokey went to work for Humble Oil & Refining Company in January 1952, and worked in Texas for several years until moving to Avery Island and finally to Lafayette, Louisiana where he raised his family. Mr. Lokey resigned from Humble Oil in 1965 after 15 years, and went to work as an Administrative Assistant for Domingue, Szabo & Associates, Inc. where he retired after almost 27 years. He was a lifetime Deacon of First Baptist Church in Lafayette since 1960, and a member of the First Baptist Church Community. Mr. Lokey enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.Pallbearers will be Phil Lokey, Jr., Mark Lokey, Reverend Luther Burney, Reverend Robert Richardson, Rocco Musumeche, Kioke Ringo, Dennis Smith and Dennis Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Lokey, Joshua Lokey, Tyler Lokey, and the Deacons of First Baptist Church.The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette, and will continue on Friday, April 25, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Lafayette.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Lokey''s name to First Baptist Church of Lafayette, c/o The New Education Building, 1100 Lee Avenue Lafayette, Louisiana 70501.Martin  & Castille - Lafayette, 337-234-2311
