The Life of J. Archie Simon

Funeral Services will be held at a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on Monday, November 9, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church for J. Archie Simon, 82, who passed away on November 4, 2009 at 10:00PM at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Martin Borcherding, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Simon, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Enise Simon of Vermilion Parish and the former Leta Hebert of Maurice. Archie graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1951. He retired from Franks Casing Crew as an accountant. Archie worked many years with Ray LaPointe during tax season. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Archie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed horseback riding and participated in countless trail rides. Archie enjoyed taking long walks with his beloved wife of 62 years. He was a very simple man with a golden heart. He is survived by his wife, Oriel Lear Simon; one daughter, Rhonda Simon Foreman; one son, Artie Simon; three grandchildren, Latrell Foreman Granger, Brandon Foreman and Delilia F. Melancon; eight great grandchildren, Macie Jarell, Kylie Jarell, Landon Granger, Trevor Foreman, Hagen Foreman, Gavin Foreman, Bryce Bourque and Makayla Melancon; one sister, Barbara Romero and one sister-in-law, Mabel Lear, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Windom and Ada Lear; two brother- in- laws, Chip Romero and Clifford Lear and two nephews, Calvin and Patrick Lear. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, November 8, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on Monday from 8:00 am until time of service. Pallbearers will include Artie Simon, Brandon Foreman, Mike Foreman, Rory Romero, Wilmer Landry and Kenny Granger. Honorary pallbearers will include Kerwin Romero and Cody Melancon. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 4:30 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand DriveLafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements
