The Life of Jeffery Lynn Fontenot

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Jeffery Lynn Fontenot, 60, who passed away on December 4, 2011 at 2:58 am at his residence. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Fontenot, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of Lenard Fontenot of Branch, Louisiana and the former Mary Osborn of Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was a member of East Bayou Baptist Church. Jeff was born and raised in Westlake, LA. A talented musician, Jeff played both trumpet and piano, and marched in his high school band. Jeff graduated from Pharmacy School at Northeast Louisiana University, where he served as president of the Baptist Student Union while working as the music director at Forest Baptist Church. Jeff worked at Barger's Drugs in Lake Charles, served as a representative for Ozark National Life, and finished his career as a Pharmacy Manager at the Wal-Mart in Abbeville. He is well-known for his work in the Lafayette community. As a tenor for the Louisiana Purchase barbershop quartet, a "Blue Coat" volunteer for the Top 28 high-school basketball tournament, and an adult leader for Troop 446 Boy Scout Troop at Fatima Parish, Jeff was dedicated to giving back to the community that he loved so much. He was a strong supporter of all U.L. Lafayette Sports. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Mary Ann Bridges Fontenot of Lafayette, LA; one daughter, Amy Fontenot of Lafayette, LA; two sons, Greg Fontenot of New Orleans, LA and Matthew Fontenot of Lafayette, LA; his parents, Lenard and Mary Fontenot of Lafayette, LA and one brother, Wendell Fontenot of Humble, TX. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clyde and Eula Mae Osborn and his paternal grandparents, Lenard and Elvener Fontenot. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm and will resume on Wednesday at 9:00 am until services in Lafayette. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Jeff Fontenot to St. Joseph's Diner-613 W. Simcoe Lafayette, LA, 70501, Pennies for Bread-75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA, 70457, or to Ozanam Inn Homeless Shelter-843 Camp St., New Orleans, LA, 70130. Pallbearers will be Lou Bridges, Charles Padgett, Sookie Sonnier, Billy Gannon, Gary Funderburk and Henry Blanchard. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Fontenot, Matthew Fontenot, Lenard Fontenot, Wendell Fontenot, Taylor Fontenot and Blake Fontenot. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
