The Life of Gordon Kimball Marshall

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 18, 2008 at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville for Gordon Kimball Marshall, 89, who passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008. He will be laid to rest in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery with Father Keith Milligan officiating the services. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bobbie Putnam Marshall of Abbeville; his children, Mary M. Watkins and her husband Richard of Abbeville; Kimball P. Marshall of Natchez, Ms.; Noemie M. Gaubert and her husband, Raymond of Lafayette; and Kathryn M. Purpera and her and her husband, Phillip "Chip", Jr. of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Shannon H. Wilson and her husband, Michael of Sherrils Ford, N.C.; Mary Mathilde Hartman of Lafayette; Jennifer Bartner and her husband, Matthew of Prairieville, LA.; Daniel Latiolais of Broussard; Amy Latiolais of Lafayette; Annah Marshall Joseph and her husband; John of Birmingham, Ala.; Elizabeth Marshall of Nashville, TN.; Phillip Purpera, III of Lafayette; Alison Purpera of Providence, R.I. three great grandchildren and a brother, William Marshall of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alison Givens Black and John Marshall, a grandson, Patrick Purpera, a sister, Wilnah Marshall Vaughn, and a brother, Charles Marshall. Pallbearers will be Daniel Latiolais, Phillip Purpera, III, Michael Wilson, W.P. "Judge" Edwards, III, Roger Boynton, Richard Putnam, Jr., John Joseph, and Chad Edwards. Gordon was born in New Salem, Mass. June 27, 1919. He graduated from New Salem Academy in 1935 and the L.S.U. Banking School of the South. Mr. Marshall was an accountant for Stone & Webster Construction when in 1943 was sent to Vermilion Parish to aid in building the recycling plant in Henry, LA. He traveled as an Auditor with the Hadacol Caravan with Dudley LeBlanc, and traveled extensively as an Auditor for deco. He was co-founder of Marshall and Edwards Insurance Agency. He served as Vice-president of First National Bank of Abbeville for many years. Gordon also served on the Board of Directors of First Commercial Bank and Hibernia Bank. He owned Marshall’s Antiques and loved traveling and collecting Antiques. He was well known for his knowledge of antiques. Mr. Marshall was fond of playing music on his piano and many more of the old stage music. Visitation will begin Thursday, July 17, 2008 from 8:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume Friday, July 18, 2008 from 8:00 AM until time of service.
