The Life of Foster I Harris

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Riverside Church of Christ in Lafayette for Foster I. Harris, 93, who passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 in Iberia Parish, where he had resided for the last year.

Lance Bennett and Danny Hebert, Pastors of Riverside Church of Christ, will conduct the funeral services.

Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Foster was born on April 20, 1915 in Black Rock, Arkansas but he spent most of his youth in Mountain Grove, Missouri.

As a young man, Foster followed his Uncle Bill Foster''s footsteps into the marine industry and served as an engineer on commercial ships most of his life. He worked for Shell Oil Company for many years until his retirement at age 70.

He was married to his beloved wife, the former Ursel Gazaway, until her death in 1992.

A member of Franklin Church of Christ, he moved with his wife to Lafayette in the early 1990''s when she required more medical care. He was a former deacon and a devoted as well as beloved member of the Riverside Church of Christ until his death.

Survivors include his brother, Billy Ray Harris of Roan Mountain, Tennessee; one son, James Harris of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Susan Soprano Auburn of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Sydney Harris, Jake Harris, and Janet Soprano Adams; and one great grandchild, Kate Adams, and his many church friends and especially his caretakers of the last twelve months, Shirley Granander, Gina Ferstel and Rachel King and his nurse, Dawn Bordelon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle Agnes Foster Harris and Henry Harris, his three brothers, Paul Harris, Vance Harris, and Robert Harris and his grandson, Nicholas Soprano.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include Johan Adendorff, Rolland Boone, Dwayne Conley, Jack Ferstel, Ron King and Todd Lollis. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Abel, Winston Ardoin, Bruce Blakemore, Shelton Bowen, Dee Bristow, Cody Bush, Randy Davis, Walter Guillory, Chad Havilland, Les Heins, Joe Phillips, Rusty Roden, Johnny Shanklin and Jack Thibodeaux.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Foster''s name to Riverside Church of Christ, 111 Camellia Boulevard, Lafayette, LA 70503 for missions and the Southern Christian Home.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
